Welcome to My World

I started painting again about a year ago to help me keep my sanity during the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. Guitar playing alone wasn’t doing it for me.

When I was in art school during the 1980’s I painted in oils mainly. I did take a watercolor class as well. When I graduated from art school I switched to painting with acrylic paint since cleanup was easier to deal with and no nasty fumes. I never really bonded with using acrylic paint and I was running into a storage problem with painting on canvas (I did do some paintings on paper). I was working as a graphic artist in the 1990’s doing digital graphic art. I stopped doing much in the way of fine art when I married and started a family in the early 90’s. My graphic art business was keeping me plenty busy.

Fast-forward to present time. I was thinking about starting to do fine art again, about a year ago. I decided watercolor painting would probably be my best bet due to the relatively low cost of entry, easy clean-up, and ease of storing the finished paintings. I started out with a 12 color W&N Cotman watercolor set, and did several paintings with this paint on cotton printmaking and watercolor paper. My paintings were coming along quite nicely, so I decided to move up to artist quality paints and haven’t looked back.

Here’s a recent watercolor and gouache painting I completed over the weekend.
